"Over Each Other" is the fifth track from Linkin Park's eighth studio album, From Zero. It was released as the album's third single on October 24, 2024. The song is the first in the band's discography to feature lead vocals entirely from Emily Armstrong.
Background
Jon Green co-wrote the song with the band, famous in the Linkin Park community for his Hollywood Bowl 2017 performance with the band and the 2019 performance of "One More Light" with Mike Shinoda in London, but also as co-writer of One More Light songs "Nobody Can Save Me," "Battle Symphony," "Friendly Fire," and unreleased song "Tidal Wave." Additionally, pop songwriter Matias Mora has a writing credit on the song. The track was mixed by Neal Avron (who mixed Minutes To Midnight and A Thousand Suns).
Talking about the creation of the song, Mike said, "The original demo was all me, and then as we were writing, in the process we played with different iterations/ways of presenting it. Some of the tracks, it was just like, I wrote the demo and then it kind of like stayed very similar to that. Other ones were more of a collaborative process and I think this one fell into that category more. It had its different twists and turns with friends of ours and at the end of the day, when we did this version with Emily singing it all the way down, it like the song - it felt the most like what it was supposed to be."[1]
About the "get your screamy pants on" clip at the end of the song, Mike said, "This song leads into another song on the record called 'Casualty' and... I'll leave it there."[2] Mike referenced the line when they debuted 'Casualty' live in Arlington, Texas, teasing the audience before the song, "this is what happens when Em puts her screamy pants on."
Composition
"Over Each Other" is a more mellow ballad than the previously released "The Emptiness Machine" and "Heavy Is The Crown," featuring a more atmospheric instrumental that builds up over time. Emily Armstrong is the sole feature on lead vocals, with Mike Shinoda providing backing vocals throughout the song. The final chorus explodes with a flurry of guitars and vocals in classic Linkin Park ballad fashion.
Music Video
The music video for "Over Each Other" was shot in Incheon, South Korea following Linkin Park's show there on September 28, 2024. It was directed by Joe Hahn, making it the second Linkin Park music video he has directed for the album (the first being for "The Emptiness Machine"). Hahn said he wanted to embrace the "K-ness of it all and make it feel like a K-drama." The video was shot in one day.[3] The video was shot in real locations throughout Incheon, Mr. Hahn getting a street shut down to film parts of the video and using an actual car for the crash scene.[4] The video was released alongside the song on October 24, 2024.
The video follows the story of a couple (played by Emily and South Korean actress Kong Seong-Ha) getting into a car crash after having an argument, playing the events in reverse order and ultimately leading to a surprise twist at the end. Despite some controversy and media censorship in certain regions in press regarding the video, Seong-Ha confirmed that she plays Emily's girlfriend in the music video in an Instagram post celebrating the song and video's release.[5]

Release
Teasers for 'Over Each Other' began appearing in various cities around the world on October 18, 2024. The X account @youbetterhearme, which had been used previously by the band in 2012 for their Living Things scavenger hunt, tweeted a blurred picture of an undisclosed location (later discovered to be the Châtelet les Halles in Paris, France) without any comment.[7] The image simply said "Over Each Other" and contained a still from the upcoming music video. Teasers were put up in 12 total cities: Paris, France; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Madrid, Spain; Toronto, Canada; Phoenix, Arizona; Fife, Washington; Milan, Italy; Auckland, New Zealand; Atlanta, Georgia; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mexico City, Mexico; Jakarta, Indonesia; and New York City, New York.[8] The images contained a variation of different lyrics from the song and stills from the video, or otherwise just the song's title and the band's logo.
Live
'Over Each Other' debuted live at the first show following its release in Nanterre, France on November 3, 2024. It was the first song the band performed to feature Emily playing guitar live. At the first show it was performed at, 'Over Each Other' was placed after the Mike solo medley of 'When They Come For Me' and 'Remember The Name,' before being moved down in the set at the next show in Arlington, Texas where it replaced 'Friendly Fire' near the end of the main set.
