"From Zero (Intro)" is the first track from Linkin Park's eighth studio album, From Zero.
Background
"From Zero (Intro)" is a short intro that kicks off the album. It features a harmony-style vocal for ten seconds, of which Mike said, "The choir on "intro" and TEM is just lots of layers of me and Emily."[1]
After that, it features a younger male voice (likely Mike's kid) saying, "From Zero? Like... from nothing? Oh, wait, your fir-" before cutting off. The person makes the connection to the band's original name, as the album title From Zero is a reference to Xero. According to the band at the Paris, France listening party for the album, it is not Emily Armstrong talking on the album intro and Mike later confirmed online it was a young male. He said, "The voice in the intro is a kid. He is not pleased you keep thinking he is Emily"[2]
The very end of the album, the end of "Good Things Go", loops back to the beginning with the same choral part from Mike and Emily, as described by Mike, "When I wrote that outro, that very last swell you hear, it goes back into the choral... tons and tons of me and Emily singing this choir thing... the end of the record swells up, and if you play the album in loop, then it goes right back to the first sound you hear on the record. So it just loops on itself, which is a circle, which is a zero. The whole idea being that, not just the album can do that, but like, that's life. These cycles happen, and the experiences within the cycle might be the same they, they might be different. There's something to us, we feel like we're at the beginning of a new loop around."[3]
