The Fillmore 2001 is a live DVD release by Linkin Park in October 2020, included in the Hybrid Theory (20th Anniversary Edition). It is included on the same DVD as Rock Am Ring 2001 in the box set.

The show took place January 30, 2001 in San Francisco, California.

Background

The Street Soldiers Tour in January and February 2001 was Linkin Park's first headlining tour ever. Kicking off in the United States, it followed the band's first, brief, visit to Europe - three short promo shows in Paris, Hamburg, and London in January and with their inaugural American television appearance occurring on Conan O'Brien shortly afterward.

Linkin Park enlisted their friends in Taproot and Styles of Beyond on the 19 date trek across the United States, playing clubs and one festival - San Bernardino's Dragon Festival put on by their friends in Cypress Hill. The tour kicked off in Seattle, Washington with a radio event before the show allowing fans to catch a rare glimpse of one of the new songs on the tour - "Crawling."

Composition

The setlist performed at the San Francisco, CA Fillmore show was the standard headlining set the band kept the most of the 2001 touring year for Hybrid Theory, not shifting from it often unless they felt like opening with another song like "A Place For My Head" a few select times.

Comments from the band members over time about the 2001 touring year reflect the fact that the album was less than 38 minutes long, but they had to fill around an hour of set time at a lot of places. To do this, they had to dig in to their catalogue and find a few other tracks they could perform. "And One" was an early song that they had been performing since at least 2000 (and likely earlier) and "High Voltage" was convenient to learn as Mike Shinoda had remixed a new version of the song, with the band ultimately including it on the b-side of the "One Step Closer" single. Both of these songs went on to become fan favorites in the live setting, although only sticking around for the Hybrid Theory era.

Due to "High Voltage" being a brand new song for this tour and Mike remixing it without the rest of the band, Brad Delson was still figuring out the best way to play the guitar parts live. You can hear him experimenting with the guitar on the song at this show and the following show in San Diego, CA that Linkin Park streamed online for the Hybrid Theory 20 celebration.

This was the first tour that Linkin Park added a second guitar on stage, allowing Mike to play rhythm guitar on "Crawling" and "Pushing Me Away", hence the two songs being right next to each other in the setlist for much of the touring cycle once they were introduced. These two songs were only debuted four shows prior, so they are brand new to the setlist in this DVD.

Linkin Park streamed the show after this, in San Diego, for the Hybrid Theory (20th Anniversary Edition) celebration on March 24, 2020. Mike, Joe, and Dave reacted to the show live, and one of Mike's comments during the show was that he forgot he was already playing guitar on stage as early as this tour.

Release

The Hybrid Theory 20 release was announced on August 13, 2020 for a release date of October 9, 2020.

The release of Hybrid Theory (20th Anniversary Edition) is composed of the original Hybrid Theory studio album, the Reanimation remix album, the Hybrid Theory EP, a compilation of b-sides from singles released in 2000-2002 titled B-Side Rarities, a compilation of LPU tracks dating from 1997-2002 titled LPU Rarities, a demo CD featuring previously unreleased demos, a replica of the Linkin Park Sampler Street Team cassette tape, a replica of the Frat Party At The Pankake Festival DVD, a second DVD with Linkin Park's full performances at The Fillmore and Rock Am Ring from 2001 and a third DVD featuring live and behind the scenes footage from the Projekt Revolution Tour 2002. The collection sums up to a total of 80 tracks.

Mini-Documentary

At some point in 2001, MTV, and others around the world, broadcasted a Fillmore TV special of Linkin Park performing at the venue. Running around 20 minutes, it includes clips of the show, interviews with the band, soundcheck footage, backstage footage of the crew and band, and more. Chester says in the documentary, "Playing at the Fillmore is one of the places that you play in your career where it is very exciting to be here because of all of the history that's been here in this building. When you walk into the Fillmore, there is this energy about it that you cannot deny." [1]

In the documentary, there is a unique look into the band rehearsing "High Voltage." Chester said until that tour, he was singing all of his delays (repeats) in the songs because the band wants to play everything that you hear on Hybrid Theory. He talks about the importance of the tap delay in this song specifically, since it is a more hip-hop song. Significant parts of "With You" and "One Step Closer" from the show are also shown in this documentary, alongside clips of other songs. There is also footage of interviewing fans after the show, the band meeting fans in the crowd after the show, and more. Lee Brownstein is listed as the producer of the mini-doc.
