Linkin Park announced this show on December 19, 2011 with the following message: "Our first announced tour date of 2012 is Rock am Ring in Nürburg, Germany this June". Chester Bennington said the same day on his blog at linkinpark.com: "We're excited to hit the road again this summer. Our first announced tour date of 2012 is Rock am Ring in Nürburg, Germany this June. It will be our first time playing the festival in 5 years, and we're glad to be back. Keep checking back for more announcements. This is just the first of many"
Sound problems plagued the show for the band. Due to new German legislation saying that the show can't be over 99dBA, the PA wasn't turned up very loud and quite a few fans left during the performance. These limits were not around in 2004 and they were very loose in 2007.
A flag by Thomas Eger, given to the band during the LPU M&G, was hung on Mike's keyboard during the show. It featured three fansites, including LPLive, on it. The same flag reappeared two days later at Rock im Park, which was a surprise for Thomas.
Both Rock am Ring and Rock im Park sold out months in advance for the first time.
