Meteora (20th Anniversary Edition) is the 20th anniversary celebratory release of Linkin Park's second album Meteora. It was released on April 7, 2023 through Warner Records.

Background

Composition

The release of Meteora (20th Anniversary Edition) is composed of the original Meteora studio album, the full Live In Texas live album, the full performance at Nottingham from 2003, a compilation of live tracks released during the Meteora era titled Live Rarities 2003-2004, a compilation of LPU studio tracks and Meteora demos titled LPU Rarities 2.0, a demo CD featuring previously unreleased demos, a DVD featuring The Making Of Meteora, The Art Of Meteora and a new documentary Work In Progress, two DVDs with Linkin Park's full performances at Veterans Stadium and Seoul from 2003 and at Manila and Denver - Projekt Revolution from 2004. The collection sums up to a total of 89 tracks (90 tracks with "Lost (2002 Mix)").

Meteora

Meteora is the full-length album without any additional music. All the bonus tracks for the album released in the past were included on Live Rarities 2003-2004 with the exception of the live version of "Somewhere I Belong" recorded in Milton Keynes on June 06, 2008, which was in the 2013 deluxe edition of the album on iTunes.[1] Oddly, only the "Deluxe CD" edition contains the original 2002 mix of "Lost" as final track on the disc. This was the first time Meteora was released as a single vinyl (instead of a double vinyl).

Live In Texas

Live in Texas is the live album recorded in Houston and Irving during the Summer Sanitarium Tour, including the songs that were previously omitted from its original CD release, which would only be featured on the DVD or on LP Underground 3.0. This was the first time the album was made available on vinyl.

Live In Nottingham 2003

Live In Nottingham 2003 is the full performance from the BBC Radio 1 Secret Show during the LP Underground Tour. This show was previously broadcasted by BBC Radio 1, however omitting both "Hit The Floor" and "Easier To Run", making this the first time both songs from this show were included anywhere. It's also the first time that a soundboard recording of "Hit The Floor" got released.

LPU Rarities 2.0

For the first time, the LPU Rarities 2.0 tracks were released to a broader audience through mainstream digital stores and streaming services. Previously, they were available exclusively to members of Linkin Park's official fan club, the LP Underground. "Attached" was previously only available as a digital downloadable bonus track for LP Underground 15, so this was also the first time this track was issued in physical format. "Standing In The Middle" was released for the first time outside of LP Underground 4.0, making it the first release of the song without any transitions. Two different versions of "A.06" and "Breaking The Habit" are present in the disc.

The compilation is intended to collect all the Meteora-era studio material released to the LPU between 2002 and 2015, omitting all live tracks from this collection and including them on Live Rarities 2003-2004 instead. The titles for all tracks were preserved from their original LPU releases, which is why there is no real pattern to how they are titled and why the 18th track on the disc is titled "Rhinocerous" (a misspelling of "Rhinoceros").

Live Rarities 2003-2004

This collection includes most b-sides off all Meteora singles and all live tracks released on LP Underground 4.0. Both live tracks off the "From The Inside" single are omitted, since they are already included on Live In Texas. "One Step Closer (Reanimated Live)" (LPU Tour 2003) off the "Faint" single is missing.

Despite the compilation being named Live Rarities 2003-2004, "Step Up" and "My December" off the "Somewhere I Belong" single are both recorded from a show in 2002. This is because the songs were released in 2003 in the Meteora era, not 2002.

Lost Demos

The Lost Demos features 14 previously unreleased demos. Many titles in this collection were known about by the community for years, but titles were not associated with specific demos until this release. "Lost" is the only track in this collection to have been reworked from its original form. Two known working titles from the Meteora sessions were left out of this collection: "Sick" and "Nocturnal".

Four of the tracks - "Lost", "Fighting Myself", "More The Victim" and "Healing Foot" - have vocals by both Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington while the remainder of the demos have exclusively vocals by Mike Shinoda. Although not noted in the tracklist, "Resolution" is an early demo of "Lost".

This disc includes alternative demo versions of three songs already present in demo form in the LPU Rarities 2.0 disc: "A.06", "Faint" and "Figure.09".

DVDs

The first DVD includes three documentaries: The Making Of Meteora, The Art of Meteora and a new documentary Work In Progress. The latter was still titled "New Fiore Meteora Awesome" on the product mock-up. The documentaries cover the recording process of Meteora, the creation of the artwork and Linkin Park touring to promote the album up to the Seoul show in 2003.

Veterans Stadium 2003 was filmed during Metallica's Summer Sanitarium Tour, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 12, 2003. Unlike other shows in the box set, the name of the venue is in the title instead of the city. It's also the only live show in the set not to have "Live" in its title. While the setlist is exactly the same as Live In Texas, it marks the first release of the "Devil Worship Intro" in any format, since it was excluded from Live In Texas. The "MTV Backstage Pass: Summer Sanitarium Tailgate Party" 2003 special filmed at this show featured a short clip of "One Step Closer". The full show was previously unreleased.

Live in Seoul 2003 was recorded during the band's first show in Seoul, South Korea on October 29, 2003. "One Step Closer" and parts of "Don't Stay" and "Somewhere I Belong" were previously broadcasted in 2003. Footage of this show was also used by Mark Fiore on the video of "Faint" that appeared on the Live In Texas TV special. The full show was previously unreleased. The exact setlist played at this show (with the inclusion of "Nobody's Listening" and "My December") was only played at one other show in the band's history: the Tokyo, Japan show on October 27th. This DVD marks the first release of a full live performance of "Nobody's Listening" and the first release of a live performance of the album version of "My December" in any format.

Live in Manila 2004 was filmed at the band's first show in Manila, Philippines on June 15, 2004. The full show was previously unreleased and marks the first release of the "Gacela Of The Dark Death" show intro, the guitar intro for "Numb", the Reanimated intros to "Points Of Authority", "With You" and "One Step Closer" and the long "Krwlng" intro for "Crawling".

Live in Denver - Projekt Revolution includes a full Projekt Revolution set at Greenwood Village, Colorado on August 30, 2004. The setlist is very similar to the Manila setlist, the only difference being the addition of "Figure.09" and its transition to "From The Inside". Footage of this show was used by Mark Fiore on the 2007 LPTV episode about the tour. The full show was previously unreleased. It marks the first video release of "One Step Closer" with additional vocals by Jonathan Davis of Korn and the first release of a live performance of "Faint" with Bert McCracken of The Used.
