"Shoreline" is the eighth track on the album Dropped Frames, Vol. 3 by Mike Shinoda.

Background

"Shoreline" is a song by Mike Shinoda made during the 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic.

In March 2020, the global pandemic created by the COVID-19 coronavirus caused communities to quarantine at home. During this time, Mike Shinoda decided to start live streaming online and inviting fans to watch him create new instrumental music.

"Shoreline" was a track made by Mike on June 8, 2020 under the working titles "6.8.20 Fan Sounds-Shoreline (Ableton)", "Edit: 6.8.20 Shoreline PT Session (Pro Tools)", and "6.8.20 Shoreline Mix 2."[1] This was a track Mike made himself on "Freestyle Friday" without any fan redemption choices for the style, but he used two sounds.com sounds picked out by fans.

Mike said, "These folks redeemed a sound. We've got this beautiful chime you've hearing in the background, it's courtesy of flory_bandasilas that's called "Romanian Bells." It's the green one playing here. We have a redemption by Mindrumusic of this other one; this one originally was faster. Let's put them both in and see what happens. Oh, vivikesi redeemed this "Traditional Japanese Phrase", it sounds like a koto to me. Dope, well done, nice pick. We've got these "Bathtub Squeak Beat" from munkymana23. And then finally, how are we going to mix this up with this "Rock Drum Beat" by anna_trix? So we've got to mash all of this up."

An hour into making the jam, Mike tried to spin the Wheel of Destiny on the stream. It kept crashing so he didn't end up spinning it. He moved the session from Albeton to ProTools so he could record live drums, saying, "I'm going to do some live drums. I'm not a great drummer, I just feel like I wanted to go into the other room for a little bit. I got a new compressor and preamp setup and I want to use it." After he played drums on the stream and used his new drum room camera, Mike said, "So, that's as good as it gets for me. I play a little bit better than that but not much better. That's what I can get out of my performance for now."
