Live

"Fallout" was debuted at the A Thousand Suns release show in New York, and was always played directly before "The Catalyst", just like on the album. The song was usually used to open the encore alongside "The Catalyst", but was used to open the show in set B-1, followed "Leave Out All The Rest" in set B, followed "Burning In The Skies" in set B-9, and followed "Shadow Of The Day" at the one-off Madrid show. At all the shows in 2010 where it opened the show, "Fallout" was given an extended synth intro. The song didn't see much movement for the rest of the A Thousand Suns cycle, with it opening the encore in set A-1, and appearing mid-set after "Leave Out All The Rest" in set B-11, "Iridescent" in set B-13, and "Breaking The Habit" in set C-5 and C-6. Once the 2011 European and Asian tours kicked off, "Fallout" was played in the main set much more frequently, only opening the encore in set E. It followed "Breaking The Habit" in set A and the Moscow setlist, "Iridescent" in set C, and "Shadow Of The Day" in the Singapore setlist. An extended version of the song featuring the Mario Savio speech from "Wretches And Kings" was used during the band's presentation of A Thousand Horizons in Japan. It was excluded completely in sets B and D. After the A Thousand Suns touring cycle ended, "Fallout" was dropped.

The song made its return on the The Hunting Party North American Summer Tour in 2015, with the synth from the song being played under the vocoded verse and chorus of "Darker Than Blood" as an intro to "Burn It Down".

"Fallout" was used to open the show for the first time since 2010 once the One More Light World Tour kicked off in South America, with two verses from "Roads Untraveled" being sung over the instrumental.

Lyrics

Album Version

I'm swimming in the smoke / of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize / I'm losing what I don't deserve
The blame is mine alone / for bridges I have burned
So don't apologize / I'm losing what I don't deserve
What I don't deserve
