"Track 7" refers to the instrumental hidden track on "Part Of Me" from the "Hybrid Theory EP". The music, written and produced entirely by Mike Shinoda, starts at 9:59 on "Part Of Me", after a few minutes of static. This is indicated on the ultrasound picture found in the original 1999 issue of the EP by the timestamp "9:59 PM". It doesn't have an official name, but it is known as "Ambient" or "Secret" among fans.

Mike said that, although the song sounds like a video game theme, he didn't plan it that way, it just happened.[1]

In September 2020, Mike was asked about the track on Twitch and if it became "Session." He answered, "I don't think it eventually became "Session," no. There's an instrumental track I made in Cubase. I remember making it and being like, "oh this is cool." And I think the idea was to make something extra for you to find at the end of like... there was minutes of space. If you look at the original track on the CD, if you were to put it in... so here's the context of that track. Back in the day, before the days of iTunes, you played CDs on a CD player. And so you'd put in your album and you'd listen to it and and at the end of it, it'd basically stop or start over. Normally you wouldn't have the length of songs show up. The number that would show up is how much of the song you've already heard, not how much of the song is coming up until the end, basically. So on Nine Inch Nails "Broken", I think it was like six or seven song thing, and at the end of that there were ninety one empty tracks, basically silent tracks, tiny one second tracks. And then track ninety eight and ninety nine were songs. And they weren't even listed on the back of the CD. So we decided to put like a little surprise/easter egg at the end of ours. And there was all of this static noise for minutes and minutes and then we put that song at the end of it. So that when you're listening to it on CD, you wouldn't know what was coming after... you'd wait and then there was an instrumental. There's no name for it, I don't think we ever named it or whatever. I certainly don't remember naming it. But it didn't turn into "Session," "Session" was its own thing."[2]

Mike was asked about it again in October 2020 - the question said, "Is there a title for the track? Fans have been calling it "Ambient" like they called "Pictureboard" "In Yourself." Mike said, "Aw man, the instrumental at the end of "Part Of Me".... it didn't occur to me to do something with that edit on the Hybrid Theory (20th Anniversary Edition) release. Because I feel like that's a really weird thing to do on a streaming track. But I didn't think of that when I was making it, it didn't occur to me or anyone else to edit that out or separate it or whatever. It's like... yeah. Call it what you want. I just call it "the end of Part Of Me", the song is "Part Of Me", it's all one track. That sound in between "Part Of Me" and the instrumental, that sound is just me with a guitar cable, mic'd up or whatever. That's the sound if you just keep tapping the end of it or whatever. That's all. If you want to make that sound, you can make it yourself now."[3]
