Show Notes
- The band played unannounced and played "Bleed It Out". Timbaland did an intro for the song, which had a hip hop beat, keyboard effects and strings, as well as vocal samples for "Bleed It Out". The song itself had the breakdown after the bridge with the crowd singing, but no drum solo and no "comeback" afterwards.
Other Notes
- A few TV commercials said "with performances by....Linkin Park", which was the only indication given that Linkin Park was going to play. Neither Linkin Park or MTV announced the performance ahead of time.
- In the weeks before the VMA's, there were unsubstantiated rumors online that there was a "beef" between Linkin Park and Timbaland. Ironically, it was Timabaland who performed the intro to Linkin Park's performance.
