According to Jeff Blue's "One Step Closer: From Xero to #1: Becoming Linkin Park" book, this was the band's 44th showcase and the one that got them signed to Warner Bros. Records. The band had been publicly using the Hybrid Theory name since May, but their legal name was still Xero. Kyle Christener was still in the band.
Jeff met Joe McEwen, head of A&R at Warner, in July 1999 while watching a show at CBGB's in New York. Joe liked their demo and decided to keep in touch with Jeff about potentially hiring him at Warner. Jeff got the job offer in August and his condition was that they'd sign Hybrid Theory, so they played a showcase for McEwen at S.I.R. Studios with Clyde Lieberman, the other candidate for the A&R job at Warner, in the audience.
