"Destiny" is the first track on the unreleased Eros album recorded in 2008 by Deftones. The entire unfinished album leaked online on June 21, 2026.
Background
Deftones started writing music for Eros as early as May 2007, only seven months after their fifth studio album Saturday Night Wrist was released, and continued writing throughout the remainder of the year. During their tour with The Fall of Troy, Deftones set up a room backstage each night to jam together as a whole band.[1]
In October 2007, Deftones returned to their home in California and revamped their studio, The Spot.[2] By the end of the month, Deftones had written half of an album, and continued to write throughout the rest of 2007 with intentions to self-produce the material in the following year.[3]
Eros was described as a very dark and experimental album that pushed each member's creative boundaries.[4] On previous Deftones records, Moreno wrote some of the guitar parts with Stephen Carpenter, but Moreno stepped down from guitars to focus solely on vocals and lyrics, giving Carpenter full creative control over guitar composition.[5] The working titles of all songs from the Eros sessions were named after strippers.
The working title of Eros was announced in January 2008[6] and Deftones officially entered the studio on April 14, 2008 with producer Terry Date and engineer Scott Olson.[7] In September 2008, Deftones began playing the new song "Melanie" during live performances while Date began mixing some of the songs at his home studio in Seattle, Washington for an early 2009 release.[8]
Bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a serious car accident and left in a coma on November 3, 2008 while returning from his brother's memorial service.[9] In July 2009, Deftones announced they had indefinitely shelved Eros in favor of work on a new album written with former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega, who was recruited earlier in the year to fill in for various festival shows and also fundraising concerts for Cheng's hospital bills.[10]
Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park took part on the Chi Cheng Benefit Show on November 19, 2009 where he joined the band to perform "Anniversary Of An Uninteresting Event".[11]
Release
The furthest developed version of "Destiny" was leaked online on June 21, 2026 along with the rest of the unfinished album.
Three more demo versions of "Destiny" were leaked online on June 22nd; two of them containing backing vocals from Mike Shinoda during the chorus. The entire session of the song was leaked as well.
On the following day, June 23rd, a jam session for an unknown song done with Mike Shinoda during the same sessions was also leaked.

Lyrics
I watched her
Play this game
Fuck around with her whole life
I watched her
Play the role
Drop the crown and bow down
The ground
Will shake
And you
Will carry us far
Far away
I watched her
Take the stage
Dance around the throne
Alive
I watched her
Take the blow
Strip her armor down
And bow
The ground
Will shake
And you
Will carry us far
Far away
Your ground
Will break
And you
Will carry us far
Far away
Far away
Far, Far
Far away
The ground
Will shake
And you
Will carry us far
Far away
Your ground
Will break
And you
Will carry us far
Far away
Far away
Far, Far
Far away
