"In Time" is the fifth track on Grey Daze's 1997 sophomore album ...No Sun Today.

Background

The band had their first pre-production sessions for their second studio album in February 1996 with David Knauer. There, they recorded a version of "In Time". The album, however, was shelved due to lack of funds to finish the studio time.

The song was once again recorded live in the studio by David Knauer and Mike Jones during their pre-production session for ...No Sun Today in December. That same month, Knauer was in a bad car accident so he had to move way from the project. The album version was produced by Jones.[1]

Amends Version (2020)

Grey Daze included "In Time" on their 2020 album Amends, with re-recorded instrumentals and using older takes of Chester's vocals. The song features guest Ryan Shuck of Julien-K. It was produced by Lucio Rubino.

In the Amends track-by-track with Apple Music, Sean said, "Ryan Shuck, who was a good friend of Chester and myself, plays guest guitar on this song. He was in Orgy and a band called Dead By Sunrise with Chester. I have an incredible memory of sitting with Chester as we were working on the melodies for this song. I was sitting on a couch in our rehearsal studio and I was kind of mouthing this word to him: 'pain'. And he stands up, grabs the mic and screams the lyric as loud as he possibly could. And all of a sudden it really came alive. He was literally feeling that lyric - you can hear it in his voice. It's an unbelievable performance, and it's one of the tracks where I think you get an insight into the beauty of Chester's vocal range and ability. This is one of the songs I get to sing with him on, which was always very difficult because you can't help but pale in comparison."[2]

Lyrics

Album Version

Time, why must it fly so slow
Waiting, is something that's easy for you
Pull the plug, send it down the drain
Pain is easy to get used to

What's in me, is in you
What's got me, has got you
And everything told, must come true
Pretending to be real, forgetting who you are

Sin, is always at my door
Slice the vein, blood spilled on the floor
Light shining in my eyes
Death greets me with a smile

Pain
So much pain
Pain
So much pain

Ooh, ooh...
Ooh, ooh...
Ooh, ooh...
Ooh, ooh...
Ooh, ooh...
