Background
The remix was created by The Alchemist, known for his work with Dilated Peoples, Mobb Deep, and Eminem. Chali 2na, from Jurassic 5, guests with a rap verse on the track. Scratches were done by Mr. Hahn.
Speaking to MTV, Chali 2na said, "I do appreciate the fact that cats like Linkin Park are able to reach out to cats like us and put us on a listening plateau to where people who don’t normally listen to rap or who only listen to the pop aspect of it will get to see other things. They’re exposing them to other things. They didn’t take the easy way out. They wasn’t calling the P. Diddys — no disrespect to them cats. … They was calling cats they respect, and I appreciate that and I respect them more for that."[1]
Brad Delson said during a linkinpark.com chat on July 3, 2002 that this was his favorite remix from the album: "I think my favorite is Forgotten that was Alchemist features Chali2na. I love Chalis verse, I love the way he and Mike go back and forth and I think the beat is really hard"
Mike Shinoda reused the early lyrics of "Rhinestone", demo version of "Forgotten", for the remix.[2]
The remix samples "Drive My Car?", a track written by Basil Poledouris for the soundtrack of the 1987 American crime film No Man's Land.
In 2004, Mike Shinoda would record another track with Chali 2na for his solo album,[3] Fish Outta Water, which was released in 2009 but without the appearance from Mike. The track remains unreleased and its title is unknown.
Music Video
The music video for "Frgt/10" features a girl doing graffiti around the town while evading a police helicopter. It was directed for MTV2's "MTV:Playback" by Joshua Cordes.[4] He said, "To herald the release of Linkin Park's remix album: "Reanimation" the band and MTV commissioned a music video for each song to play on the network as an album premiere. They gave each director $1000 and three weeks and the only direction was the show was going to be tied together by a sleeping girl in bed. In that time, I wrote, storyboarded, animated and edited the final video. Afterwords, my video was the only one chosen from the lot as an "official" Linkin Park video, released on further DVDs, played as concert visuals and included on their You Tube page where it currently has over a million views: 1,077,815 and counting"[5]
The video, along with the "Pts.Of.Athrty" and "Kyur4 Th Ich" music videos, was released on the DVD-A edition of Reanimation.
MTV: Playback was originally aired on July 27, 2002 at 2:00pm, with a rerun on July 28, 2002 at 8:00pm.[6]

Lyrics
From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I've forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture's there
The memory won't escape me
We're stuck in a place so dark
You can hardly see
The manner of matter that splits with the words I breathe
And as the rain drips acidic questions around me
I block out the sight and the powers that be
And duck away into the darkness
Times up I wind up in a rusted world with eyes shut so tight that it blurs into the world of
pretend
And the eyes ease open
And it's dark again
From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I've forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture's there
The memory won't escape me
But why should I care?
In the memory you'll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up
Listen to the sound
Dizzy from the ups and downs
I'm nauseated by the polluted rot that's all around
Watching the wheels of cars that pass
I look past to the last of the light and the long shadows it casts
A window grows and captures the eye
And cries out a yellow light as it passes me by
And a young shadowy figure sits in front of a box
Inside a building of rock with anntenaes on top, now
Nothing can stop in this land of the pain
The sane lose not knowing they were part of the game
And while the insides change
The box stays the same and the figure inside could bear anybody's name
The memories I keep are from a time like then
I put 'em on paper so I could come back to them
Someday I'm hoping to close my eyes and pretend
That this crumpled up paper can be perfect again
Yo, from the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I've forgotten In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture's there
The memory won't escape me
I'm here at this podium talking
The ceremonial offerings dedicated to urban dysfunctional offspring
What's happening?
City governments are eternally napping
Trapped in greedy covenants
Causing urban collapse
And bullets that scar souls with dark holes
Get more than your car stole, some hearts be blacker than charcoal, for real
This society's deprivation depends not on our differences but the separation
within
No preparation is made
Limited age and minimum wage
Living in a tenement cage for innocent pay
Tragedy within a parade
The darkness overspreads like a permenent plague
I'm the forgotten
In the memory you'll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up
From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I've forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture's there
The memory won't escape me
But why should I care?
There's a place so dark you can't see the end
Skies cock back and shock that which can't defend
The rain then sends dripping / acidic questions
Forcefully, the power of suggestion
Then with the eyes shut / looking thought the rust and rot
And dust / a spot of dirty, yellow light floods the floor
And pours over the rusted world of pretend
The eyes ease open and its dark again
From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I've forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture's there
The memory won't escape me
But why should I care?
In the memory you'll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up
Moving all around / screaming of the ups and downs
Pollution manifested in perpetual sound
The wheels go round and the sunset creeps behind
Street lamps, chain-link and concrete
A little piece of paper with a picture drawn floats
On down the street 'till the wind is gone
The memory now is like the picture was then
When the paper's crumpled up it can't be perfect again
From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I've forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture's there
The memory won't escape me
But why should I care?
From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I've forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture's there
The memory won't escape me
But why should I care?
In the memory you'll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up
In the memory you'll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up
