"Robot Yodel" is the fifth track on the album Dropped Frames, Vol. 3 by Mike Shinoda.

Background

"Robot Yodel" is a song by Mike Shinoda made during the 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic.

In March 2020, the global pandemic created by the COVID-19 coronavirus caused communities to quarantine at home. During this time, Mike Shinoda decided to start live streaming online and inviting fans to watch him create new instrumental music.

"Robot Yodel" was a track made by Mike on July 6, 2020 under the working title "7.6 Robot Yodel."[1] This CoronaJam was the result of several ideas. This was a mash up of Country (AllieH) + Folk Alternative Rock (requested by Matilda) + Bavarian Yodeling (requested by HangoutDelightShow) with two Sounds.com loops picked by fans.

Mike said, "This was one of the "choose a sound" redemptions. I don't know why I added it, it has nothing to do with country, it has nothing to do with folk. This sound comes to you courtesy of FancyUnicorn. This is the point where if you know anybody who yodels, you get that person and have that person record it into their phone and send it to me because I can't find a yodel sample. I don't know what I'm going to do with that. So the request for today, I pulled three fan suggestions from the bowl. They were folk alternative rock, country, and a Bavarian yodeling jam. I don't know about the yodeling jam. I tried to do look for yodeling sounds and I did not find them."

He added, "There are also some fan-submitted sounds from sounds.com that I could grab. There's this taiko drum." For the country/folk part of the song, Mike played acoustic guitar. "We're going to do acoustic guitar to start because I feel like that's the common thread. Without a pick!"

The song's title came from the fact that when Mike got a yodeling sample, he turned it into a robot sound and buried it in the mix of the song.

All streaming services (but not YouTube) the day of the album's release incorrectly titled the song "Robet Yodel", but it was later corrected.
