"Wesside" is a song from the Meteora recording sessions that was officially released on the 20th Anniversary Edition of Meteora.
Background
The title "Wesside" is a slang term for the "West Side" gang symbol where a person's hand is made to look like a giant "W." Phoenix is seen making the symbol on The Making Of Meteora DVD after he pranks the band with the elevator breaking down during the band's photoshoot at The Ambassador Hotel.
Samples of the song were released on December 10, 2012 as part of Stagelight: Linkin Park Edition under the name "West". The piano and drum samples were used in the creation of the Stagelight demo track "Loop Jam 1".
Brad Delson did a track-by-track commentary of the Lost Demos disc for the "Super Deluxe Box Set" book on Meteora (20th Anniversary Edition). About "Wesside", he wrote, "Love the breakbeat. Vibes. And the smoothness of the verses. These moments (even the ones that never made it to a final album) still feel familiar. We lived with versions of these songs for seasons, even if they never made the light of day or were merely a sacrifice or conduit to the greater good. Lots of 9 chords with distortion - a really popular go-to color for us at that time. A way to take something gritty and give it more depth, vulnerability."[1]
