A Thousand Suns: Puerta De Alcalá is a digital EP release by Linkin Park in 2011. The EP features songs performed from Hybrid Theory, Meteora, Minutes To Midnight, A Thousand Suns, as well as single "New Divide".
Background
Linkin Park kicked off the A Thousand Suns World Tour in September 2010, performing a release show in New York City amongst other promotional performances. The first leg of the tour took them to South America in October for three shows before they jumped right over to Europe at the end of October 2010.
Near the end of the fifteen show tour across Europe, Linkin Park flew to Madrid, Spain on an off day between headlining dates in England to perform at the famous Puerta de Alcalá landmark in Madrid for the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Composition
A Thousand Suns: Puerta De Alcalá features six professionally mixed and mastered songs from Linkin Park's show in Madrid, Spain on November 7, 2010. The full show, minus "Wisdom, Justice, And Love", was released internationally as the A Thousand Suns+ DVD. Tracks included in this release are "New Divide", "Waiting For The End", "Breaking The Habit", "The Catalyst", "In The End", and "What I've Done".
The versions of the six songs on the release are standard, with the exception of "Breaking The Habit" having an extended acapella outro by Chester.
On November 7, 2010, Mike posted on his blog about the show, "Thanks again to all the great folks who are a part of our live show, both behind the scenes and in the crowd. We appreciate you guys, and were honored to be given the award tonight for "Best Live Act." Besides the performance of “Waiting For The End,” which was aired on the show, we played a 60 minute set for the crowd in front of the Puerta De Alcalá tonight. That show will be premiering on MTV in the coming weeks. Here was a snippet... that crowd was LOUD."[1]
Releases
The EP was released digitally on January 25, 2011 during Linkin Park's North American Tour for A Thousand Suns.
Ethan Mates mixed the release and it was mastered by Vlado Meller.
On January 22, 2011, three days before the EP's release, a "Bonus Edition" of A Thousand Suns was released digitally in Indonesia with the same six songs. Over time, the "Bonus Edition" was released digitally in other markets and is available on Spotify and other streaming platforms. For example, Spotify USA is able to access both the A Thousand Suns (Bonus Edition) and the Puerta De Alcalá EP.

Trivia
- The photo used on the cover of the EP is actually not from the show in Madrid, Spain as it features Linkin Park's full headlining show production at the time on tour. It is instead from one of the headlining shows, possibly from Europe at the time.
