Template:Infobox album A Decade Underground is a compilation album by Linkin Park released for digital download to the LP Underground on August 18, 2010 with preorders for LPUX, the tenth year of the LPU. The artwork for the release says, "A compilation of Linkin Park songs from the last decade of LP Underground".
Background
On August 18, 2010, the front page of the LP Underground website was revamped with a new design to match A Thousand Suns. The announcement on the page read that the LPU website would be moving from lpunderground.com to linkinpark.com/lpu and that the new LPU would launch in October.[1]
Preorders for LPUX were launched the same day and as a bonus for preordering the new Annual Pass ($60), fans were given an mp3 (320 kbps) digital download of A Decade Underground, a compilation of LP Underground demos. The release was not advertised by Linkin Park or the LP Underground as it simply came as a bonus for preordering LPUX: "* Free download of A Decade Underground, an exclusive LPU digital download of songs released by the LPU over the last 10 years, which includes an UNRELEASED DEMO from 2008 titled "Pretend To Be""[2]
Composition
The compilation includes all eight songs previously released in 2008 on Songs From The Underground along with "Across The Line" from LP Underground 9: Demos. The release also featured a brand new demo previously unknown to Linkin Park fans - "Pretend To Be" (Unreleased Demo 2008). The song would later on be released physically as track six on LP Underground X: Demos in November 2010.
The LPU website accidentally listed the release date of the download as August 10, 2010, but it was actually released on August 18, 2010.[3]
The artwork included in the digital download is an exclusive cover for the compilation.
