Show Notes:

  • The event was honoring David Gahan and Kevin Lyman for for their services to charity. The press release for the event says: "The seventh annual MusiCares MAP FundSM benefit concert will honor Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan and Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Friday, May 6, 2011. Gahan will be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares® MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process. Lyman will be the recipient of MusiCaresFrom the Heart Award for his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization".
  • Chester was introduced by comedian Greg Behrendt and came out with an acoustic guitar to perform one song - The Messenger. During his short speech before the song, Chester explained that he originally wrote this song as a letter to his kids that are growing up and will soon face their own lives and how he usually doesn't perform with an instrument, jokingly stating that he is kind of "a virgin tonight playing for the first time".
  • Unlike the studio version of the song that was recorded in a key of G, this version was played in C.
