Background

On November 5, 2015, Mike Shinoda posted a picture of himself and Dutch electronic artist Martin Garrix on Instagram.[1] This was followed by Martin posting a second picture with Mike with the caption "Another day in the lab".[2]

During Episode 6 of LPAssociation's podcast, Mike said the pictures with Martin Garrix was nothing more than meeting with him and throwing out ideas.[3]

On March 18, 2016, Martin Garrix headlined the first night of the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida, where he debuted a song called "Waiting For Tomorrow", which featured vocals by Mike Shinoda.[4]

On April 15, 2016, a 3 minute studio version was leaked on SoundCloud and was immediately taken down. The title of the track indicated that the American DJ Pierce Fulton also contributed to the song.[5] Artwork for the song was unveiled on April 17, 2016.[6]

Martin Garrix's debut studio album was set to be released in 2016[7] and would feature other artists that included Ed Sheeran, Bebe Rexha and Third Party. In an interview he gave in early April, he said the album wasn't ready yet: "I have no name for the album yet, [though] I have been thinking about different options. However, I’m still in the process of making you songs. I think I have between 25 to 30 songs right now and then we’re going to pick the 13 best ones."[8]

Through Twitter, Garrix said "Waiting For Tomorrow" "will probably just be on the album"[9] and the album would be released at "probably end of the year."[10]

Until this day the album remains unreleased.

Music Video

Despite Martin Garrix leaving Spinnin' Records in late 2015 due to disagreements over ownership rights of his music,[11] a lyric video for the leaked version of "Waiting For Tomorrow" was uploaded to the Spinnin' Talent Pool YouTube channel on September 23, 2016. The video features footage of Garrix on tour.

Remember we were staring up to those peaks on the horizon
I promised I would never stop it
In your name I would climb them
There's nothing I have wanted more
The only one I've been waiting for
So hold your breath and close your eyes
The end is unknown but still we rise

Counting down, to the light
Through the night, just waiting for tomorrow
Almost there, almost time
All my life
Just waiting
It's only one more day, it's only one more day
It's only one more day, it's only one more day
Waiting for tomorrow

Just waiting for tomorrow

Sleepless nights have paved my way
And this road is finally ending
I've killed for just the chance to be in this place where now I'm standing
The fear is creeping up behind on this courage I'm projecting
I can't find order in my mind with this noise inside so deafening
It's only one more day, it's only one more day
