"Decasentry" is an instrumental song by Mike Shinoda released as an NFT on Async Art.
Background
On May 22, 2021, Async Art announced on Twitter "A very special guest is jumping on this next Wave - @mikeshinoda of @linkinpark & @fortminor debuts his #AsyncMusic on May 27th. Can't wait!"[1] According to their website, "Async Art is a new art movement built on the blockchain. Create, collect, and trade programmable art: digital paintings split into "Layers", which you can use to affect the overall image. Art that can evolve over time, react to its owners, or follow a stock price is now all possible with programmable art. Launched in February 2020, the platform has seen $7.8M+ in bidding and $2.1M+ in sales volume."[2]
Mike did a short video introduction for Async Art's tweet, saying, "Hey what's up you guys, it's Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park and I am happy to be offering my first piece on Async Music!"[3]
Further tweets from Mike explained (in reference to the drawings in the video), "Those are the layers. Layer owners will get to choose which option is visible; each visual layer is attached to a sound layer. Different drums=different art"[4] and that he did both the art and the music.[5]
Mike's track is called "Decansentry", coming in at 2:51 length. Mike released four stems for the song and fans could also purchase all of those: "Base (DECASENTRY DRUMS)", "Stem 1 (DECASENTRY KEYS 1)", "Stem 2 (DECASENTRY KEYS 2)", and "Stem 3 (DECASENTRY MELODIES)." Fans could also remix their own version with the stems and sell that version too to other fans.
Mike's description of the release says, "This multi-tentacled monster was born out of a collision between classical arpeggios, childhood cartoons, and video game soundtracks."[6]
Release
"DECASENTRY" and its four stems were sold on Async Art all to the same collector "mat", totaling over $80,000.
The amounts were:
- "DECASENTRY" - $43,828
- "Stem 1 (DECASENTRY KEYS)" - $10,447
- "Stem 2 (DECASENTRY KEYS 2)" - $10,447
