Background
"Berlin One" is an instrumental demo created in 2009 during the A Thousand Suns sessions. It was released in November 2014 on the LP Underground XIV CD.
On the LPU exclusive video "Track By Track With Brad - 1", released on January 23, 2015, Brad Delson said: "Alright, this demo is called "Berlin One". Another German influenced track for you. We spent a lot of time in Germany over the years. And thing is cool about being on our band is we really feel like we belong to so many different places. Certainly our roots are here in Los Angeles but when you travel to different parts of the world, being Asia, Europe, South America, cities all over the US, we feel like we're a local band in a lot of these places and certainly that's true for us in Germany. This demo, "Berlin One", says, the notation is "Version C", and one thing to know about our writing process is we'll do many many songs which ultimately get withered down into the ones that you hear on the finished album. Sometimes we'll have 50 or a 100 songs written or demos written to make up that 11 or 12 that everyone hears on the album. And to make the things even crazier, each of those 50, 70, 80 songs there might be 30 or 40 versions of each one. So you can see why a good record keeping is important in the studio, so we actually know what we're working on. And that the... our writing process is really open, it's really expansive and only by the end of the process that we have to start to converge all the potential creativity and refine it into the finished album."
On Linkin Park's European Tour in June 2008, the band used days off between shows to record music at two different locations in Europe. One was Sono Records Studio in Nouzov, Czech Republic[1][2] and the other was Tritonus in Berlin, Germany, both of which are mentioned in the A Thousand Suns booklet. This demo was recorded in Berlin and has the same exact key and chord progression as the verses of "Burning In The Skies".[3]
