Background

"Razors.Out" is a song produced by Mike Shinoda and recorded by vocalist Chino Moreno of Deftones for The Raid: Redemption soundtrack.

It's no secret that Deftones was a big influence on Linkin Park. The band used to play "My Own Summer (Shove It)" on early rehearsals and even performed it as part of their shows in 2002.

In 2001 Linkin Park was a support act for Deftones' European Tour. The two groups became friends, and Stephen Carpenter, Deftones guitarist, recorded guitars for "By_Myslf" on Linkin Park's 2002 remix album Reanimation. They went out on tour together again in 2003, this time both bands were opening Metallica. In 2009, Mike joined Deftones on stage for the live debut of "Anniversary Of An Uninteresting Event", which also featured drums by Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe.

Mike announced his work on the soundtrack on September 9, 2011 through his personal blog. "For a long time, I have been wanting to score a film. In order for it to work, it would have to have a great story, stunning visuals, and the timing would have to work out in a way that didn’t distract from all the things I want to do with Linkin Park. I’m really excited to have finally found the right project. The movie is called The Raid. Its intense martial arts choreography, amazing cinematography, and great story have been inspiring all kinds of new music. I’m excited for all of you to see—and hear—this film."[1]

About working with Chino Moreno, he said, "Chino's just dope, he's just a dope singer and a really unique artist. I always enjoy working with him in particular. It's funny because when we first started touring together, I don't think those guys really liked us very much. And then later we just kind of got over it, for the most part. Chino in particular, we're really cool."[2]

Album Version

Closing in, I hear the voices
Haunting bells, echoe voices

Remove the frame and focus in
As I begin to wave
You pretend to take the scene
And I'll pretend to pray

From the top, to the end
You've got your razors out
To the end, til you stop
You cut the frames out

Frozen, I can hear the voices
Controlling our fate, echo voices

You remove the frame and focus in
As I begin to wave
You pretend to take the scene
And I'll pretend to pray

From the top, to the end
You've got your razors out
To the end, til you stop
You've cut the frames apart

Remove the frame and focus in
As I begin to wave
You pretend to take the scene
And I'll pretend to pray

From the top to the end
You've got your razors out
To the end, 'til you stop
You cut the frames apart

From the top to the end
You've got your razors out
To the end, 'til you stop
You cut the frames apart
