Background

LP Underground 15 is the sixteenth CD released by Linkin Park for their fanclub, the LP Underground. It was released on November 25, 2015 to coincide with the release of the newest iteration of the LP Underground, LPU 15. The initial release of the CD contains six demos, spanning from the pre-Linkin Park days in 1998 to the Living Things sessions in 2011. The remaining six tracks were released bi-monthly, leading up to the next year's LP Underground release. This EP marks the first time since LPU X that a LPU CD wasn't available separately in the LPU Store at the time of its release. It was, however, sold separately after the next LPU launched.

Writing and Recording

LP Underground 15 contains an art piece created by Mike Shinoda in college called "Pods" which was divided into three movements for the release. Also included, in the initial release, is a completed demo from the Minutes To Midnight sessions in "Chance Of Rain", a short seed done by Shinoda during the early A Thousand Suns writing sessions called "Basil", and a demo from the Living Things days called "Animals".

As far as downloadable tracks are concerned, a demo from before the band was called Linkin Park titled "Hurry" has been released, which contains elements found in another pre-Linkin Park demo, "So Far Away". Two other pre-Linkin Park demo were released, titled "Grr" and "Chair". The latter being an early version of "Part Of Me" from the Hybrid Theory EP. Two more A Thousand Suns-era demos have been released, "TooLeGit" and "Grudgematch", as well as a Meteora-era demo called "Attached".

All tracks were mastered on October 23rd, 2015 at Bernie Grundman Mastering.

Composition

The tracks found on the CD reveal some of the inspiration the band underwent while creating their albums. For example, all of the demos created during and after Minutes To Midnight have some form of vocal since, as advised by Rick Rubin, the band was putting vocals on demos as soon as they could.
