Background

"Attached" was originally set to be released on August 03, 2016 as a bonus downloadable track to LP Underground 15 but was only added to the LPU Store a day later. On that same day, a track-by-track video was released about the song, in which Mike Shinoda stated "When I first listened to it, even today, I was thinking it came from a later batch of songs. It makes me realize how far we had come at that point in just being able to produce a song on our own, because this was entirely basically in my home studio computer. If you go back, just on this release alone, and you go back and listen to some of the previous releases from "Hurry" and "Grr" and the "Pods" one, like back in '98 to this demo, you can really hear how much cleaner it sounds and the mix is much nicer and it just sounds like a song that you'd put on an album. I think we tried to sing a few things over it and we just didn't come up with anything we really, really loved so it just kind of fell by the wayside, and we're not precious about the songs, you know, especially if we're writing an album. I think the fewest songs we ever wrote for an album, Hybrid Theory not included, would be like 40 or 50, and the most would be easily 150 or more. Some of that stuff is just unlistenable, like you'd listen to it and just be totally bored, it's just loops of stuff, and other stuff we do revisit from one album, if it falls by the wayside, we might bring it into the next album and start playing with it and see if we can salvage it.

What's nice about the LPU releases is we want to give you guys a special look into how it evolves and I think that as far as an album evolving and as far as the evolution of our skills in the studio as a band, this song "Attached" is a pretty good example of that."

Despite being labeled as a 2003 demo, the original instrumental dates as far back as at least January 2001 (but more likely 2000) when it was used as a show outro during the Street Soldiers Tour. The song can be heard on video recordings of the Las Vegas and Pittsburgh shows from that tour. It's possible the band tried reworking the track during the Meteora sessions as hinted at by Mike's track-by-track commentary.

In December 2019, Mike, Phoenix and Joe filmed promotional videos for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupés in Los Angeles.[1] A total of four videos were uploaded by Mercedes-AMG and each individual band member to social media in February 2020, all of them featuring LP Underground music. The video posted by Phoenix used "Attached".[2]
