"26 Lettaz In Da Alphabet" is a cookie song from the LP Underground 8.0 CD, named Sweet Hamster Like Jewels From America!. All songs on the CD were written by Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda and attributed to a fictional group called "MMM...Cookies". "26 Lettaz In Da Alphabet" was described by Mike as "a mock electro-club-banger" and Linkin Park's magnum opus.[1][2] The lyrics contain references to the children's television series Sesame Street and the 1964 musical film Mary Poppins.

Background

The concept of a cookie song was explained by Mike in the official Linkin Park forums in December 2008: "Working on a song for an album is sometimes a lot of work, and occasionally we need some time to unwind. When Chester and I unwind, sometimes we make another kind of lighter, fun song. We call these songs "cookies." I think came from the idea that you get your dessert (your cookies) after you eat all the rest of your meal."[1]

In August 2020 when questioned about the CD on Twitch, Mike said, "The reason we called it that was because once in a while, we were recording or writing and it was like stressful or we worked hard and whatever, then afterwards my thing was like, "after you eat your meal you can have your dessert." After you do your work then you can have a fun thing afterwards. Kind of like how "Booty Down" happened. You do a thing that you're like, "ugh, that was not working", then we'd make a fun joke song to like flip up the energy. And so we made stuff like "26 Lettaz In Da Alphabet." I ain't gonna do "No Laundry." That was actually... Chester just came in and sang that. The laundry. That shit was so funny."[3]

When asked in October 2020 on Twitch who did the vocals on the track, Mike said, "Yeah I'm pretty sure that's Chester." When he went to listen to the song, he commented, "How big is this beat? This beat is so loud. Can you tell you spent so much time on these lyrics? I don't know why Bert went flat. Come on guys, we released this to the LPU. Milky chocolate shirt? Ha, I don't know what that means. You said it sounds like Fergie? Yeah I think we did this around that time, when those songs were popular. You can tell here it's Chester. This is from LPU 8. Sweet Hamster Like Jewels From America, that was the name of our LPU 8 fan club CD. Mmm Cookies. There were fans that said, 'This album is a slap in the face to the fan club. What the fuck?'" He then went to LPAssociation and read comments about fans not liking the album. At the end he commented, "26 Lettaz In Da Alphabet is one of the best songs in our catalog, FYI"[4]

Album Version

Man, the other day
I was trying to figure out how many letters was in the alphabet
It took me all day, but you know I did it
You wanna know how many letters there are?
26 letters in the alphabet

26 letters in the alphabet
I wear a shower cap so I don't get wet
I put on my shoes so my feet don't hurt
And go to the floor with Ernie and Bert

When I'm on the floor I'm singin'
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
(Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)
When I'm on the floor I'm singin'
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
(Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)

I got lots of friends, so I don't need pets
26 letters in the alphabet
Ernie got wasted and Bert went flat
They got kicked out and they can't come back

So they're standing outside singin'
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
(Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)
Yeah, they're standing outside singin'
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
(Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)

Yeah, you know they outside

Do the Ernie
Who's inside?
Do the Bert
Who's outside?
Shake your milky
Who's upside?
Chocolate shirt
Who's downside?

Do the Ernie
Who's inside?
Do the Bert
Who's outside?
Shake your milky
Who's upside?
Chocolate shirt
Who's downside?

Do the Ernie (26 letters in the alphabet)
Who's inside?
Do the Bert
Who's outside?
Shake your milky (26 letters in the alphabet)
Who's upside?
Chocolate shirt
Who's downside?

Do the Ernie (26 letters in the alphabet)
Who's inside?
Do the Bert
Who's outside?
Shake your milky (26 letters in the alphabet)
Who's upside?
