Live In San Diego 2001 is a live stream on YouTube by Linkin Park in March 2020, for the Hybrid Theory (20th Anniversary Edition). Linkin Park members Mike Shinoda, Joe Hahn, and Dave Farrell did a "Linkin Park Reacts To A Linkin Park Show From 2001" video to this show on March 24, 2020, followed by Linkin Park uploading the show song-by-song to their YouTube on April 9, 2020.

Background

The Street Soldiers Tour in January and February 2001 was Linkin Park's first headlining tour ever, following three short promo shows in Paris, Hamburg, and London in January and fresh off of a TV appearance on Conan O'Brien. They enlisted their friends in Taproot and Styles of Beyond on the 19 date trek across the United States, playing clubs and one festival - San Bernardino's Dragon Festival put on by their friends in Cypress Hill.

Composition

The setlist performed at this show was the standard headlining set the band kept the most of the 2001 touring year for Hybrid Theory, not varying from it often unless they felt like opening with "A Place For My Head" a very few select times.

Comments from the band members over time about the 2001 touring year reflect the fact that the album was less than 38 minutes long, but they had to fill around an hour of set time at a lot of places. To do this, they had to dig in to their catalogue and find a few other tracks they could perform. "And One" was an early song that they had been performing since at least 2000 (and likely earlier) and "High Voltage" was convenient to learn as Mike Shinoda had just remixed it for the b-side of the "One Step Closer" single. Both of these songs went on to become fan favorites in the live setting, although only sticking around for the Hybrid Theory era.

Due to "High Voltage" being a brand new song for this tour and Mike remixing it without the rest of the band, Brad Delson was still figuring out the best way to play the guitar parts live. You can hear him experimenting with the guitar on the song at this show and the following show in San Diego, CA that Linkin Park streamed online for the Hybrid Theory 20 celebration.

This was the first tour that Linkin Park added a second guitar on stage, allowing Mike to play rhythm guitar on "Crawling" and "Pushing Me Away", hence the two songs being right next to each other in the setlist for much of the touring cycle once they were introduced. These two songs were only debuted four shows prior, so they are brand new to the setlist in this DVD.

Release

The Hybrid Theory 20 release was announced on August 13, 2020 for a release date of October 9, 2020.

On March 24, 2020, the show was streamed on YouTube with Mike, Joe, and Dave live reacting to it. On April 9, 2020, Linkin Park uploaded each individual song to their YouTube page from the show.
