Background

On November 15, 2013, 686 Technical Apparel introduced via Zumiez a very limited edition parka jacket (limited to only 175 units) designed by Mike Shinoda with 686 founder and creative director, Mike West to benefit Music For Relief's Oklahoma tornado recovery and clean energy solutions through the Power the World campaign.

Mike Shinoda said on the press release, “Mike West and I had a mutual interest in making something that could be worn on the mountain, but also worn in the city – something that has all the technical features of a snowboard jacket, but also looks and fits like a jacket you can wear in the street. Honestly, I wanted to make an awesome snowboard jacket to wear this winter. It came out great.”

Mike West added, “I’m a fan of the creative process. Working with Mike (Shinoda) has been a blessing, as he not only understands the process from concept to completion, but brings a unique take on it. We share similar interests in design and culture, and I’m stoked that we were able to bring a cool story and mash it up in the worlds of art, music, fashion and snowboarding.”[1]

The marketing campaign for the jacket featured an original score by Mike Shinoda.[2] It uses some of the same sounds present in "Space Station".
