Background
"Chance Of Rain" was a demo recorded in 2006 during the Minutes To Midnight sessions. It was released in November 2015 on the LP Underground 15 CD.
A LPU exclusive video about the song was released on February 5, 2016. On the video, Mike said: "Hey, this is track by track with Mike for LPU 15. The sixth track on the CD is called "Chance Of Rain". That's a song actually called "Voices". We went with the demo title cause it never really got out of the demo phase. We were making, as I recall, Minutes To Midnight. Most of the ones that didn't make the cut were the more mellow ones. And we really like these songs, it's just we didn't... we thought that Minutes To Midnight already had enough mid-tempo and mellower type of stuff on it, so we didn't want to put all the mellower songs on it. And our favorite by far was Leave Out All The Rest. Songs like In Between and Valentine's Day were also among them. And to us, to include a song like this one, Voices or Chance Of Rain, and potentially lose a song like, I don't know, like No More Sorrow or something just seemed like not what we wanted to do. But we always liked this song and it made actually all the way to the mix process and, you know, just at the very last minute it didn't make the cut. For the most part people only knew the band as Hybrid Theory and Meteora. To be writing pieces of music like this one was really wild for fans to hear, we knew that, but we also knew that this is the type of music we like to listen to, this is the type of music we were capable of creating. That's what Minutes To Midnight was all about. Was about expanding our horizons and trying new things and getting comfortable making music that didn't sound like what people expect."
Linkin Park recorded and finalized seventeen songs for Minutes To Midnight, with twelve making the album. Four of the others that ended up being released over time are "No Roads Left", "Across The Line", "Blackbirds", and "What We Don't Know". There is speculation that the last track could be "Chance Of Rain", since Mike mentioned in the track commentary that it was cut at the last second. In a May 18, 2020 stream, Mike was asked about the identity of this fifth song that didn't make the album. He said, "We always have lots of songs that get scrapped from an album, so I don't know. The fifth? Got me, I don't know. I wish I could tell you. Probably something that is unreleased."[1]

Lyrics
She had never really understood
She demanded her respect
Twenty years of falling under foot
Twenty reasons to regret
You would look for what you couldn't see
Scared to be what she became
She would tell you what you couldn't be
And why you had yourself to blame
Alone again
You tried to disappear and
Hold it in
Pretending not to hear
This voice without a sound
Voice that tears you down
You're trying not to fear
Saying this in your head
But it whispers in your ear
Saying this is what you get
She was ready with your penalty
When eventually you'd fall
She was there inside your memory
Saying this was all your fault
Alone again
You tried to disappear and
Hold it in
Pretending not to hear
This voice without a sound
Voice that tears you down
You're trying not to fear
Saying this in your head
But it whispers in your ear
Saying this is what you get
Alone again
It's all becoming clear you
Hold it in
Pretending not to hear
This voice without a sound
Voice that tears you down
You're trying not to fear
Saying this in your head
But it whispers in your ear
Saying this is what you get
This voice without a sound
Voice without a sound
This voice without a sound
Voice without a sound
