"Lying From You" is the fourth song on Linkin Park's sophomore album Meteora. The song was released as a radio single in February of 2004 and unexpetedly saw major success, prompting the band and label to release a live music video for the track, taken from the band's performance from the Live In Texas DVD.

In March 2003, Mike Shinoda did a track-by-track of Meteora for ShoutWeb. About "Lying From You", he said:

"That song will be impossible for any cover bands to play! Chester just sings too damn hard. I think it's great. I think he did some great stuff on that song. We all are really proud of that song. It's another song with a great keyboard thing that we made, this kind of sample sound at the beginning. It's going to be a really fun song to play live. I could say the same thing for the song that comes after that.

"Lying From You" is about pushing someone away. The title means, making up lies to make another person angry so that they don't want to be around you; which is something that some people do subconsciously in relationship. That's not what my part of the song is about but I know that in a broader sense, when people start feeling negative feelings toward somebody else, just naturally they start doing things to make that person not want to be around them. It's a subliminal reaction. That works with friends. That works with relationships - either way, people do that."[1][2]

On the Meteora booklet, the band wrote, "Mike and Joe's studio equipment was installed in the back of a tour bus during the summer of 2001, and they put it to good use. Mike came up with the intro sample and chorus music for the song during an overnight bus drive during Ozzfest (Trying to record guitar in a moving bus can be very sloppy). But months later, in the studio at NRG, everything got cleaned up, replayed, and put together right."[3]

Mike talked on Twitch, on April 14, 2021, about "Cuidado" being the working title. The word appeared in the booklet and on stage and led to speculations between fans over the years. He said: "'Cuidado' was a demo from Meteora, but, it's not for a song that you've never heard. Does anybody know what song Cuidado turned into? Chat, you know, some of you know... You're Googling, look at you Googling, you can't Google fast enough. Which demo Cuidado turned into to? It's not known? What do you mean it's not known? 'I think it was Figure.09'... Actually, you guys are saying 'Figure.09', I thought it was 'Lying From You', no? It turned into 'Figure.09'? I'm pretty sure it was one of those two songs. I was gonna saying 'Lying From You', but I don't know. I thought we released 'Cuidado' on one of the LPU releases, no?" Contrary to what fans suggested, "Figure.09" was a working title that stuck,[4] meaning Mike was right about "Cuidado" being "Lying From You". Artwork of the title from the Meteora art wall was shown on the video screens during "Lying From You" when Linkin Park was playing the song in 2003-2004.

In April 2023, Linkin Park released a demo of "Lying From You" on Meteora 20 with the name "Cuidado."

Brad Delson did a track-by-track commentary of the Lost Demos disc for the "Super Deluxe Box Set" book. About "Cuidado", he wrote, "¡Cuidado! The bounce between the guitar and rhythm section is so natural. This version feels like it was well on its way to the finish line. Sometimes completion is an operation of omission - figuring out which elements don't belong. Addition by subtraction. There's the bridge. Feels like this is our album of bridges. Often kind've an afterthought in songs, we learned from Hybrid Theory (O.S.C., I.T.E) how a great bridge can propel a strong song to far greater heights. In this case, apparently, we liked the bridge so much we wound up adding it to L.F.Y.'s intro."[5]

Music Video

"Lying From You" was released as a radio single in February 2004.[6] Due to the song receiving heavy radio rotation, the band decided to release a music video so the song could also be played on TV. The video however, was taken entirely from the "Lying From You" portion of the Live In Texas DVD, with the studio audio being dubbed over it. The video was premiered on FuseTV in the US in March 2004.[7]

"Lying From You" was a staple song throughout the Meteora touring cycle. The song was typically performed early on in the set - throughout 2003, it was in the third or fourth position. It was moved up a mid-set position starting at the Smoke Out festival, and maintained that spot for the following Meteora UK November Tour. On the final tour of 2003, the short U.S. Holiday Radio Shows, the song was consistently dropped from the set for the first time since it debuted. Its disappearance was short-lived, as it returned on the Meteora North American Tour - the first tour of 2004. 'Lying From You' was now a mid-set song, sitting comfortably between "It's Goin' Down" and "Nobody's Listening". This lasted until that summer, on the Meteora International Tour, where the song returned to its early-set position. On this tour, it was performed earlier than ever before - the second spot in the set, right after "Don't Stay". It maintained this spot for the rest of 2004.

The song was not performed as its studio version in 2005 - instead, the band and Jay-Z performed it under the "Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You" mashup from Collision Course. The studio version of the song returned in 2006, where it was performed mid-set after "From The Inside".

On the Minutes To Midnight touring cycle, "Lying From You" returned to it's early-set position, second in the sets early on after "One Step Closer". The song saw a little movement when the band began rotating setlists on Projekt Revolution. Set A had the song fourth, after "No More Sorrow", but both Set B and Set C had the song in its regular position as the second song in the set. That stayed consistent for the rest of the year. In 2008, the song changed positions with the introduction of new setlists. In Set R, the song was mid-set in the sixth position. Set S had it earlier in the third position, and Set T featured to song as the fifth song performed. At the end of the Minutes To Midnight North American Tour, Chester became sick and the band had to drop songs form the setlist to work with this. This resulted in "Lying From You" opening a single show, after "Wake": night one in Las Vegas. The song was moved up later into the setlists in Set S to accommodate Chester's sickness. The second Minutes To Midnight European Tour of the year introduced three more new setlists, and also introduced a new live intro to the song - the only extension it has ever had. Set X and Set Z featured the song as the second song, and Set Y had it in the sixth position. This stayed consistent for the rest of 2008. In 2009, the song was performed sixth in the set.

On the A Thousand Suns touring cycle, the band performed the song a bit more sparingly. The song wasn't performed until the sixth show of the A Thousand Suns European Tour, where the band began rotating it with "Papercut" in response to reading a thread on LPLive regarding the lack of variation in the setlists. This prompted another change, too: "The Messenger" being rotated with "Leave Out All The Rest". Both of the two songs added were not rehearsed beforehand. As the year passed, "Lying From You" served as the counterpart for "Papercut" in Set B. 2011 showed the song a bit more love. On the A Thousand Suns North American Tour, "Lying From You" was the fourth song in the set in Set B-11, Set B-13, and Set C-5 (with "Papercut" moved up to the encore). This was continued throughout 2011, and the song moved up one slot in Set D and Set E in the summer.

On the Living Things touring cycle, the song returned in a new form. Beginning on the Honda Civic Tour, the song was shortened and performed as a medley with "Papercut", featuring only the intro, first verse, second chorus, bridge, and outro. The medley appeared mid-set in Set C, and in the encore in Set B. The full version of "Lying From You" was added into Set A mid-way through the tour (to accommodate for set time), after the "Victimized" and "QWERTY" mashup. The medley was ultimately dropped in Set C, and both songs in it were performed in full, with "Lying From You" appearing before "Victimized". The song remained in its positions until mid-2013. The song was not featured into the festival iterations of Set A and Set B, but were still in the headlining versions. At the end of the cycle, the Living Things Asian Tour, the song was performed in full as the second-to-last song in the encore - the first time the studio version of the song was performed in the encore.

"Lying From You" was not performed as its studio version on The Hunting Party World Tour, but a new, abridged version of "Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You" was performed in Set B.
