Template:Infobox album CoronaJams (working/unofficial title) is an untitled digital-only release by Mike Shinoda coming in summer 2020. There is no current release date, artwork, or tracklisting yet.

Background

In March 2020, the global pandemic created by the COVID-19 coronavirus caused communities to quarantine at home. During this time, Mike Shinoda decided to start live streaming online and inviting fans to watch him create new instrumental music.

Writing and Recording

The streams were originally called "Beat Making Demos" by Mike but then he shifted to the tag "CoronaJams".

Mike's first streams were done via Instagram Live on his phone. The first stream took place on March 17th and was a beat making demo for his solo song "Open Door". Mike decided to quickly mix the demo and text it to fans via the Community app. He later announced a contest for fans to record vocals to add to the song as well as to design the cover artwork for the single.

March 25th was Mike's last stream via Instagram Live as on March 27th he shifted to using Twitch and then using Restream to also broadcast the Twitch stream on Periscope, YouTube, and Facebook. When he shifted to Twitch, he began taking questions from fans and will occasionally do a Q&A session during the stream.

Throughout March, April, and May 2020, Mike has streamed sessions of creating CoronaJams. He has taken requests from fans at times for themes of the jams, as fans can earn enough "Shinodabucks" via Twitch to request a specific theme. He has also done CoronaJams based on unique themes or ideas that he is inspired by. For example, he created a "Hybrid Theory" style CoronaJam, a "Reanimation" style CoronaJam, an "A Thousand Suns" style CoronaJam, a Nintendo Game Boy sounds CoronaJam, a CoronaJam based specifically on samples from Money Mark's Instagram, and more. Some of the CoronaJams are based on themes Mike enjoys, such as 90s hip hop or 80s music.

The stream on April 21st was a drawing stream done from Mike's iPad. He encouraged fans to color in his drawing and then tweet it back at him using the hashtag #CoronaDrawing.

At times, Mike has streamed calls with other musicians, such as Jason Butler from Fever333, Phoenix, Dan Mayo and grandson.

Releases

On March 18th, Mike released the CoronaJam along with "Open Door" via the Community app (texting fans) through WeTransfer links. Mike included a zip file of the instrumental and stems for the song as well in lossless format.

On April 2nd, Mike sent a message to the LP Underground with his "Hybrid Theory" style CoronaJam attached. The message read, "Hey everyone, While I’m staying home and self-quarantining, I’ve been doing live music-making sessions. I generally start from scratch and build something over the course of about an hour in my studio. Fans can watch in real-time whenever I go live, or you can watch the clips later after they’ve been posted. Today I felt like making a Hybrid Theory / Meteora-inspired instrumental demo, and I wanted to give the final product to you in the LPU. Enjoy the music! -m"

On May 5th, Mike said he is going to release the CoronaJams on streaming services soon, but he has to go back and clean some of them up first.

On May 15th, Mike drew the album cover for the CoronaJams album release. He confirmed the release will be all instrumentals and he asked fans which CoronaJams should make the album.
